You may be young, scared, afraid to tell your parents, and not know where to turn. You may be older, raising your family, and not able to handle another child. You may be in college, looking forward to starting a family sometime in the future, but just not now. You may be a grandparent, trying to help your child raise her baby without help from the father, without job skills, and without a high-school diploma. You may be facing the reality of a handicap or disease that makes raising a child beyond your capabilities. Whatever your situation, you want what’s best for your child and need to explore the options.
We at Monica Farris Linkner P.C. are here to help you sort out your choices, and make a plan that will give your baby the best life has to offer. We respect you, your love for your baby, and your willingness to make decisions that can be difficult. We are not here to judge you, but to make sure you get the best possible representation at this difficult time in your life. If you are considering the loving choice of adoption for your child, we
Ø Carefully explain the adoption laws, your rights and your choices;
Ø Guide and support you through the adoption process;
Ø Help you find and select an adoptive family that has the qualities you want for your child, either in Michigan or in any other state;
Ø Make sure the adoptive family has been thoroughly evaluated and approved for stability, financial security, emotional and physical health, and has had criminal background checks.
Ø Help you decide whether you want to meet the adoptive parents during your pregnancy and/or maintain an ongoing relationship after the baby is born;
Ø Arrange for payment of your pregnancy and adoption-related expenses (for example, medical care, legal fees, maternity clothes, groceries, cell phone) if needed, as permitted by law.
Ø Refer you to a counselor with experience in adoption issues who can help you with the many emotions you’ll experience during and after your pregnancy;
Ø Help you prepare a hospital plan and contact the hospital staff ahead of time so your wishes for baby’s birth and your hospital stay will be respected;
Ø In most cases, make sure baby is discharged from the hospital directly to the adoptive family, so they can begin the important process of bonding.
Ø Prepare and support you through the signing of all legal documents and, if necessary, your court hearing.
